Useful information

Thais use in their cuisine all kinds of meat, fish in considerable quantity and also a lot of vegetables and fruits. They are proud of the national dishes and like to serve their guests with them. Streets and channels of Thai cities are full of stalls and carts, bicycles and boats trading in various snacks. In Thai cuisine they  make out dishes with pride, beautifully and brightly. Vegetables as the garnish are cut very accurately, in various forms. The confused drawings and art execution are the integral part of the Thai cuisine.

Everyday dishes depend on the weather, season, harvesting and freaks of rainy seasons. One of the main products here is rice, it is the garnish and the main coarse, it can be also served as the dessert. The meal for the plain Thai means kkhao, i.e. rice. Nevertheless the rest - vegetables, fish, meat - is called by Thais "kap kkhao" that means: "that eat with rice". The coconut takes almost the same central place. Thai cuisine varies in different regions, depending on available products. 

Instructions for the tourist

In dialogue with Thais keep calmness and smile. Anger here is the sign of roughness and bad manners. It is not allowed to express even the slightest neglect to the Thai monarchy or royal family. When visiting the Royal Palace  one should not wear too open clothes (with the open shoulders, knees, heels). Before you enter the temples with the images of Buddha, and also if you come into the private house of the Thai, you should take off the footwear. Here it is not allowed to express publicly the feelings between the man and the woman. You should not touch the head of the Thai even of the best motives.

 

Export of corals in the raw state is not allowed.

Export of antiques and works of art from Thailand.

Export of images of Buddha and Bodhisattva or their fragments from Thailand  is forbidden. (Except for attendants of the Buddha cult, in connection with arrangement of the events for cultural exchange, or for the scientific purposes. The license for export should be received in the Department of Fine Arts. 

Export of gold bars, jewels, platinum ornaments, marks and antiques from Thailand without the license for export is forbidden. 

For export of antiquity units or works of art irrespective of whether they are originals or reproductions, you need to obtain the license for export in the Department of Fine Arts.
