Sights

 One of the main sights in the capital is the National Museum of Bardo in the palace Dar Hussein (Bardo) near the Tunisian Parliament - this is the biggest museum of Maghrib with the biggest collection of the Roman mosaics in the world, and also with extensive collections of archeological finds of all epochs. 

The central street of Tunis, picturesque avenue of Khabib Burghiba passes from the gate of Bab Al-Bakhar ("French gate", XIII century) of Medina to the lake the Al-Bakhir. You should visit the extensive covered market with all attributes of the east trading life, the numerous small markets around Medina, the park Belvedere in the territory of which there is zoo and amusement park Dah-Dah, and also a small oceanographic museum Salammbo in the capital suburb. 

Also you can visit Zigvan (40 km from Tunis) with its ruins of the Water temple, Forum, Capitol, market, temple of Merkury and terms. The complex of ruins of Tuburbo-Majus with the rests of the Roman city, forums, Collosseo, temples, terms and gyms will be interesting to the fans of the Roman antiquity. 

Hammamet is the ancient fishing port and one of the most popular sea resorts of the country. it is located on the seashore some 70 km to the southeast from the capital. In 180 A.D. there was the Roman colony of Putput on the  place of this city, which was subsequently renamed by Arabs into Hammamet ("place for bathing"). 
In the southern part of the city there is a young resort area Jasmin Hammamet (or "Hammamet-Zyud") - one of the greatest and modern resorts in the country. The complex includes some beaches, port Marina with capacity to moor upto 740 pleasure boats, perfectly planned quay with the numerous institutions, modern Medina, kids' center for amusement Carthageland, the well arranged city parks with fountains, diving centers, numerous discos, casinos, restaurants and golf club. 

Tabarka ("place covered with bushes"), located at the foot of Krumiria hills - ancient Phoenician port with the Genoa fortress (XVI century), the picturesque rocks named "Needle" for their forms, and an ideal place for fans of scuba diving and fishing. Some 105 km to the southwest from Tunis there is ancient Dougga (Thugga) - the most grandiose Roman ruins in Tunis. Here, in  the Medjerda River valley they found the arch of Marcus Aurelius Severus Alexandrus, ruins of the Forum with the Capitol (166 A.D.) and the temple of Saturn, the mosaic Square of Winds, the sanctuary of Juno Caelestis, perfectly kept portico of Capitoline temple, the Punic mausoleum of Atebana (III-II centuries BC), terms, House of Dionysos, House of Ulysses with fine mosaics (are exposed in the Museum of Bardo) and built in to the  slope theater (188 AD) for 3,5 thousand seats.
